I've heard that there is law that you must be given 8 hours between shifts in VA. I'm trying to find where that law is written. Can anyone help/confirm this law. Also is there anything extra to it like, if your home is outside a certain mileage from work travel time must be accounted for or what not?

I ask this as my situation is that I work 330-midnight on Fri and then have to be back in at 815 sat morning. This gives me no more than 5 hours of sleep under perfect conditions. This is due to travel time and when I have to wake up, 645 at latest to make it to work on time. Today I am working on less than 3 hours of sleep because even with a sleep-aid I was unable to get to sleep till a few hours after I got home.

Thank you in advance.

You have heard incorrectly. There are a few industry specific exceptions where there is a public safety factor (such as airline pilot or truck driver) but for the most part, no law in any state requires any particular number of hours between shifts.

No law in any state requires that you be paid for your regular commuting time, no matter how far you live from your work location.
