state of ks spouse

 My spouse works for the State of Kansas. She is a salaried employee who is supposed to work 4 10 hr days and have Fri off. They are overworking her tremendously - typically 58-65 hrs a week - no extra compensation - no comp time. Whenever she asks, she is told "Oh, well, you're salaried". At what point does salaried turn into slavery?????? Just because an employee is salaried does that mean that they have to work more than 40 hrs per week without compensation? The director is not listening to employees and three in the department are ready to quit. Is there a "nice" way to inform the director that comp time or some other resource has to be used and that she just can't work the employees to death???

At whatever point the law is changed so that she no longer has the right to quit. Slaves did not have that right. Your wife does. Your imagery is offensive.

No, there isn't. Nor is your premise correct. The number of hours you reference is not considered excessive - plenty of exempt employees work that number of hours regularly.
No laws are being violated. If she doesn't like the terms of her employment, she is free (unlike slaves) to find other employment. Or simply quit.

The US government allowed slavery, so did the churches... that is what is offensive. It was common for slave owners to exploit their people and to treat them very badly. Many employers continue the Master mentality. Why are you so rude to the people that come here for your help? I'm going.

I'm going. Good. Slavery MAY have been allowed, but it hasn't legally since 1863. Get the chip off your shoulder. You got the proper legal answers.
Anyone who thinks they are in a situation that even remotely compares to slavery as it was practiced deserves for someone to be rude to them.
