I recently left a full time salaried job. I was not paid for my available sick time. (24 hours are still available)

Some folks seem to think that I am to be payed for this time if I leave my job... Is there any truth to this?

Not unless you have a bona fide contract that promises it. No state requires an employer to pay out unused sick time.
