I am a commisioned sales person and my employer payes me a commision against a base hourly rate. In other words if my commision surpasses my hourly I am strictly commision. My employer requires us to come in to work on our day off for sales meetings and a once a year inventory. Can they do that without paying a straight hourly for those times?

From my understanding of Kansas law, as long as you are being paid at least minimum wage for every hour you work they are following the law. So if the commission you receive covers the minimum wage for the hours you work, it's legal.

nlkansas: I'll let this one pass since no one else had responded to this post. However, in general, I request that people do not respond to posts that have been dormant for several weeks unless they are either the original poster coming back with an update, or have a question (not a comment) about the law being discussed in the thread. We have had difficulties with long-dormant posts being opened in the past and so to prevent further issues, I'm asking you to comply with the rules that have been established for this site and not respond to threads that have had no new posts for, say, a month. Thank you for understanding.

In addition, you will note that several of your posts have been removed. It is my responsibility, not yours, to let posters know when they are out of line. I do not always do it publically unless I have no other options; however, you may rest assured that if someone is being rude, I will deal with them. If you have a complaint about Patty or another poster, you are free to PM me and I will take appropriate action. But it is not up to you to chastise other posters.
