My wife works as a manager at a medical office. Her employer recently opened a new office about 50 miles away. Since the other location doesn't have a manager yet, she was asked by her employer to go to that location every other week without any compensation. I would like to know if a) is this legal?, b) if she gets into a car accident on the way there, is her employer liable for the damages to her vehicle?

I would answer this correctly for maybe any state except California. But we do need to know whether she is exempt or nonexempt.
