I'm coming up on the end of my 12 month lease for my apartment and now the rental company says I either need to sign another 12 month lease or move out. Friends tell me the owner can't demand another lease after the first one was fulfilled. Does anyone know more about this law in Chicago?

i dont think they are demanding another lease but in order to maintain tenancy you have to sign a new lease or notify them you are not wishing to renew your lease and move out. some leases have a clause that states if you do not renew your lease it automatically becomes month to month. read your lease and see if you have that clause.
