I work in a public library in Oklahoma City. One of the security guards on staff has been consistently harassing me for several months. He will follow me around the library, stand at the check out counter and stare at me, he will stand beside me while I am at the desk working and stare at me. Once he walked up behind me while I was sitting at my desk and whispered, "Run", in my ear. On another occassion, he followed me to my car. When I entered my vehicle he pounded on the trunk of my car then came up to my window and yelled that I should "check the backseat". I have repeatedly asked him to leave me alone, as has my supervisor, yet he continues to stare at me and follow me around.

I have reported this to my supervisor and she has inturn reported it to the security company that he works for. The security company has continued to send this man to our library despite our requests that he not return. The Human Resources supervisor is also working to remove this individual from our library.

This is a third party individual and not employed directly by the library system. Is there anything that I can do to keep this man away from me? Should I get a protective order?

Thank you.

Your employer is responsible for protecting you from third party harassment. I would let your Supervisor know that it is continuing. If you have an HR department for the library system, let them know of the failures to stop the behavior. Your Supervisor should let the security company know that they are subjecting themselves to liability by sending this guy. They should be told if he shows up again that they are fired. You do have the right to be protected from that type of behavior.

If yo uare concerned for your safety even away from work, you can get a restraining order. Based on his behavior, if it were me, I'd get one.
