I am a new supervisor at a small company. After raising the issue of sexual harassment between a male employee towards a female employee, the male employee filed sexual harassment charges against me. He filed his claim less than 12 hours after being spoken to about his own actions. He was, eventually, terminated for his harassment. He managed to get the EEOC involved in his case against me and I am now on administative leave. I have an appointment with an attorney in 2 days to file a defamation suit against him. His activities have had a very damaging impact on my current work environment. Not only has his accusations had a negative impact on my relationships with my superiors, I am terrified of the male employees that I supervise.
Do I have any hope of getting past all of this? He filed these charges 1 month before my wedding. I would reprimand people for using the "f" word. I am so insulted and indignant about this. What's your advice? Should I lose my job?

No one here has any way of knowing if you will lose your job or not. But if you have an appointment with an attorney, he or she will be in a much better position to advise you than we are. If you had not already made an appointment, that's what I would have advised you to do, but I think you need to discuss more than whether or not you should file a defamation claim.

What else should I be thinking about? I have never had to deal with this before. What else should I be discussing with my attorney? I am at a total loss as to where to begin with getting my life back. My husband and I have our lives on hold because of this. We were looking at buying a home, getting custody of his daughters, making a life together. Without my job, none of this is possible. How do I defend myself? What do I do?

That's what your attorney will advise you about. There's no way we can do so on this board. The situation is way too case-specific.
