I accepted a job with a medium sized technology company in NC in Nov 2005. The 1st month I worked part of the week at the company and part time in my home town (3 hours away). In December I moved and started working there fulltime. The company agreed to give me a moving stipend. Beginning of Q2 2006 (April 4th) (5 months later) without warning, I get laid off that afternoon.

I still haven't completed my move (belongings in storage). I also had problems with contributions to my 401K starting in January. Do I have any legal recourse even though I signed an employment at-will contract in NC? I uprooted my family to work for this company. Is there any legal or public policy standards that can help me?

Anything you might have (and I'm not saying you do), would be related to "detrimental reliance", in that you suffered personally due to the bad faith actions of the employer. However, that's can be hard to prove, especially if the needs of the business changed. You can contact an attorney to review your situation and the agreement you have for specific advise.
