It was just announced my small company is closing it's doors. Aren't they required by law to offer Cobra insurance? If they're not around, how do I get it?

I'm afraid you can't. COBRA reg's requires an employer to offer up to 18 months of group health continuation at the departing employee's cost. If the company is closing their doors, then the group health plan almost certainly will be cancelled - which means there's nothing to offer COBRA on.

You can ask your HR department if the medical plan they have allows an employee to convert to a private plan however.
