I work part time at a retail store and the schedule is never done until like thursday of the week the schedule is for. my question is, is there a minimum amount of time the schedule needs to be done prior to the week it's for? and as a part time worker am i supposed to call everyday to see if the schedule has changed or is it the employers responsibility to call the employee on any changes to the schedule?

No, there are no laws that require employers to post the schedule a set number of days in advance. The employer can require employees to call in to check the schedule. From the employer's perspective, it's much easier for employees to call in than to have to make multiple calls to employees, leave messages, wait for employees to call back, etc.
