View Full Version : job transfer, do I have to pay fee in alabama

i've moved from alabama to louisiana recently and have too pay fee of 500.00 to landlord for breaking lease. is there any laws that protect me from having too pay this.

No, there aren't. When you sign a lease, you sign a binding contract that spells out the terms and conditions under which either party can break the contract. Unless there was a clause in your lease that allowed you to break it without penalty in order to relocate, you are bound to whatever penalty is spelled out in the lease. I'm assuming that's $500. $500 actually could be cheap -- if the landlord were unable to re-rent the place quickly, you could be liable for rent till the end of the lease.

No but I think you should have both signed a mutual release so you have insurance about this coming back on you.
