I resigned my former position as a Retail Mortgage Loan Officer back in December of 2005. I took a job as a Wholesale Mortgage Account Executive and have been very happy. I have benefits, increased income, great co-workers, all around good situation.

I had an employment contract with my former boss stating I received a guaranteed draw for my first 12 months with them. After that time, my income would become commission only. I had only been with the company for 6 months and they were having a hard time paying my guaranteed income and told me so. Financial difficulties with the company so I thought it best to find another job and I did.

Here's the problem. The former Boss is angry I left and asked that I pay the entire guaranteed draw I received over my 6 months of employment back. I have had my employment contract reviewed by 2 attorneys and there is absolutely no legal basis for her request, only anger. Anyway, I still work in Oklahoma and in the same industry. I have found out that my former boss is going around to other area broker's and telling them I owe my former company/boss $15,000 (6 months salary) and that they should not do business with me. These statements are completely false legally, based on my employment contract AND SO SO unprofessional.

Do I have any employment law issues regarding confidentiality I can present to them as further enticement to stop. Slander issues? I am not sure where to go. I am sorry we can not all act like adults, but I want to protect my professional reputation from an adolescent attack.

Any advice?

This is FAR too situation specific a question to be answered with any accuracy on a message board. You need to be talking to an attorney in your state.
