I've seen a very public high profile IT officer move from company to company and state both of these:
a: your benefits make up x% of your salary therefore you need to work that much over 40 hours per week
and (the disturbing one)
b: your average time per week needs to be 44-48 productive hours per week and vacation and/or sick time is not to be included in that productive time.
This person has been executive vice president and I believe is even higher at this point. Is there some legal recourse to change this abuse of exempt employees. Especially those who have accumulated possibly 10% of time in vacation.
For the company he is at now, the benefits would be around 14% so a long term, loyal employee would now face working a minimum of 48.5 hours every week (making up the difference when vacation is taken).
Someone tell us how to stop the abuse!
