What is this? Also, say I ware to petition the court; for what
reason.. I just thought of one that could work. How about an
inheritance? Like I could tell the Court that Grandpa who passed
away in '96 left x number of dollars, will wasn't probated and my
feeble attempts at locating her are turning up zilch. If I get a
Court Order do I get to go right to the source? It seems that would
be the hammer. Hugs, Eve

Adoption/Subsidized Guardianship Preservation Services - Under the
Family First Initiative, this program aims to support families
through issues related to adoption or guardianship. A variety of
services are offered to meet those needs. These services include:
crisis intervention, individual and family therapy, family and child
support groups, advocacy with schools and other agencies for
specialized services. The goals of the Preservation programs are to
educate parents about adoption and its impact on children, help
parents understand how some of the child's behavior relates to past
history, help them understand the child's past losses and to link
the family with community resources which support their needs.

Adoption Registry Services - Adoption Registry Services are
available to all members of the adoption triad: birth parents,
adoptees, and adoptive families. Services include membership in
adoptive family clubs, facilitating updates between birth parents
and adoptive families, non-identifying background information,
searches, and reunions. Ongoing counseling and educational
opportunities are provided by agency and resources are identified in
the community. Through the membership in the Adoptive Parents'
Guild, adoptive families receive the Adoptive Families Voice
quarterly newsletter, and are able to celebrate and support family
life through educational, social and religious events.

This is all I could find so far; guess it's snail mail My Best, Eve

Take heart Kat, I found my bmom one year ago next Friday. We are
still working on a reunion....we saw each other for the first time on
Oct.
2, so keep the faith. I just turned 39 years old...she was very happy

to see me (though blown away) but she still has lots of feelings to
work through. So, keep the faith!

Hello everyone,
I sent a email a while ago, but I don't think that I was doing
this
right? Now to do this right. I am new to all of this, sorry. My
name is Kathy but everyone calls me Kat. I am 34 years old and have
just
started this year (kinda) looking for my b-family. But this has very
confusing. I had a very good life. I have just recently started
asking
questions regarding my adoption to my parents and I can feel their
uneasiness about this. I can feel their "fear of being threatened"
about
this. So I don't want to upset them. I just recently got a computer
about 5-6 months ago, so this has been when I have really started
searching registeries. My friends tell me that if it was meant to be
it
will, but after 34 years? I have kinda felt that way too. This is
why I
have really never have started looking. I was born 09-18-69. I just
recently sent off for my birth certificate. It states that I was born
in
Washington, D.C., of course no hospital county, etc. To look at my
sons and look at mine, looks empty. My mother recently told me that
she
thinks that I was not born in Washington, D.C. She thinks that I was
born in Pennsylvania? She says that she has this "feeling". Her
story
was that I was born in September and when I was two months old I was
flown to PA, where my parents have adopted me. A year later the
adoption
was final. She says that my birth name was Sherry and that she has a
"feeling" that my birth grandmother's name was Beverly? I was adopted

through Catholic Charities and that my b-mom was 16 and Catholic my
b-dad was Luthern? So I really don't know where to start? Someone
said
start with Catholic Charities, but I was told that they are hard to
get
information about adoptions. I am not a very forward person, I keep a

lot things inside (actually I scared to death about doing all this).
But I figure that I must start somewhere, right? Well thanks for
listening, any advice, I would be very thankful. I see all these
adoption
registeries and never seen too many people with my birth date and that

sometimes depresses me, like the saying goes what if they don't want
to
meet you? I have stayed on the computer for hours reading lots of
stories about bad meetings, etc and this scares me, I am not a very
strong
person. Thanks for listening to me.
Kat

Kat (and those who are afraid to talk to their aparents about
searching):

Here is a sample letter that someone posted in my group some time
ago. This is a sample of how to write a letter to one's aparent's and
explain the need to search. It could also very easily be used as a
script
for a telephone call or face-to-face conversation with aparents.

It is ever so helpful to have the love and support of one's aparents

when traveling this difficult journey of search and reunion. I hope
this is of help to you.

Dear Mom and Dad

I love you. Thank you for everything you have done for me
since you brought me into your home. I need your help and
understanding
today. After a lot of thought and soul searching, I have decided to
search for my biological past. I debated long and hard about this
decision. The desire to search is not meant to hurt or reject you.
This is
not spiteful. You have been there for me since I was a small child.
YOU
are my parents. No one could ever take that away.

However, there is a need to find out where I came from, to hear what

name I was given at birth, to see someone who looks like me. If we do
not turn our backs to one another, there is a chance that we can
become
closer. At the least, do not deny me my right to search for my past.

It is difficult to explain why an adoptee suddenly has a need to
search.
Each person and each circumstance is different. For some, it might
be
due to a health condition, while for others, it might be the specter
of
having children of their own without knowing what they might be
facing.
For me, it comes down to finding that missing piece that I left in a
hospital 30 years ago.

A search is draining, with a lot of time and energy devoted to
chasing
phantasms. The two things that I really need from my parents are
support and understanding. I am not asking for money or time, just a
continuation of the love that helped me turn into the great person I
am
today.

The two of you have been there for me almost from the start. When my

search is complete, I doubt that all my questions will be answered or
the gaps in my soul will be totally filled. There is a strong
possibility that the search may take a long time, it may end badly,
either due to
death or
another rejection. You were there for me when I had the chicken pox
and when I had poison ivy. Please let me know that you will be there
this
time, no matter what the outcome.

You wiped my tears when I did not get asked to the seventh grade
dance.
Please say that you are alright with my search. You walked me down
the aisle when I got married. Walk with me now, into my past. Tell me
what you know and how it happened.

You chose to bring me into your home with love and compassion.
Please
stand with me when I seek where I came from to better understand who I

am today.

I am scared and need my mom and dad. The people I am looking for are

my ancestors, but not my parents. They are total strangers who happen
to share the same genetic makeup. Unfortunately, like any other family

member, I cannot choose who brought me into this world. They may not
want me, but you always have. Please want me now, as well.

This is the toughest decision I have ever made. I love you and do
not
wish to harm you. I need you now more than ever. Please, do not turn
your back on me. You probably do not understand why I am doing this.
Neither do I, but I must. My quest would be lonelier if I had to walk
this
road by myself.

With all my Love,
