We are about to replace the roof on our home and before we do this we are having several large pine trees (about a dozen, actually) cut down. There are 2 or three others of our neigbors that overhang our property line so far as to overhang our roof on either end. (2 different neighbors). I need some advice about whether we can legally cut the overhanging branches or if we have to talk to them first. Just a little history- the house on one end is currently in probate due to death of the owner and the house on the other side belongs to a rather 'odd' person (very reclusive middle aged man). We have lived here 8 months and have yet to have him speak to us. I don't want to start a 'neighbor war' with anyone but do want to have some idea as to what our legal standing is before we proceed. Any advice would be helpful or pointing us to a way to find information would be appreciated. I tried to make an appointment with a couple of lawyers but the tree cutters are scheduled for next week and I can't get an appointment before that.
Thanks!
