I moved out of my apartment and did not break a lease or anything like that but, I was to be turning in the key Tues morning..Monday my truck broke down and could not get over there to finish and get the rest of my stuff and clean..I went over last night (Tuesday night) to finish up and get my dry cleaning that I left by the door..I had some boxes of stuff to go to good will, needed to clean and get some other things..When we walked in the door it was unlocked the refrigerator was open, every light was on in the apartment and everything was ramsacked and just thrown everywhere..Also the dry cleaning was gone..all my good suits were in there..I realize I was to have everything out by Tuesday morning..but it looks like to me that whomever went in and inspected it, they went through the stuff, took what they wanted and then left the door open for someone else to go through it..That is bad because the washer and dryer (that I rented from the apartments )are in there and someone could have came in there and took it..It just looks bad on me cause I did not leave the place like that..and I would love to have my clothes back..I was not late on rent and in fact I paid $475.00 for half the month this month..I was a good tenant..What concerns me is that an employee of the apartment could have done this and now it looks like I did it..Do I have any rights to get my good clothes back..?

if you knew who took your clothes you may have a chance. only dilemma is you were supposed to be out in the morning so it looks like you just left your things there unless you notified the apartment manager that you would be returning.

My suggestion- get a police report and file it with your renters insurance, assuming you have it. You cannot really know if it was an employee or if it was just someone seeing you were moving and targeted you because of it.
