I was given a written warning regarding a situation that happen outside of work and not work related. My son also works at this company. Outside work I was told that this man said my son would never grow up to be a man because I babied him. I do not even talk to my son at work because they charge him $5.00 if they even think he has talked to me.

to be written up for something that did not occur at work?

Yes, it would be legal in all 50 states. The law does not dictate to the employer what they can and cannot write up an employee for.
