What is the Law regarding the pay for overtime in Oklahoma. I started a new job and have been working lots of overtime. I was told that I dont get paid for it. I was told they put all overtime hours in a "bucket" to use as sick time or vacation. This is unheard of where I come from...Please let me know the what the law states..thank you.

I'm not the answer guy around here but I've read enough posts to know that they are gonna ask you if you recieve a salary or are paid on an hourly basis. They will also want more information to determine if your job qualifies as exempt from the overtime rules.
If you are a non-exempt hourly employee and you work more then 40 hours then your employer must not only pay you for the hours they must pay you at least 1.5 times your normal pay rate/hour.
If I read your post correct your not even getting paid your regular rate for these overtime hours as if you never worked them, is this correct?

Actually, what we're going to ask is whether she is exempt or non-exempt. It is possible to be non-exempt and paid on salary; it is possible (in a VERY few cases) to be exempt and paid hourly.

Hence the second sentence of the first paragraph saying that more information in addition to whether or not she is salaried may be required.
I was just lurking around the forums to see the replys to my own question and thought I could help the young lady get a speedier response if I pulled more information before one of the more knowledgable people read the post. If I've overstepped, I appologize.

No, you didn't overstep. It's just that there are far too many people who assume that "salaried" and "exempt" are synonyms; as are "non-exempt" and "hourly" so we try to make the distinction whenever possible to avoid confusion.

Hi, wow those were quick responses. Thank you. I work at a womens drug & alcohol treatment center. I'm a unit supervisor and am paid hourly. I assume I am non-exempt since I'm 33 and pay my own taxes. Is this correct? Also, the person that made a statement about not being paid at all for overtime hours is correct. We are paid every two weeks. My check will only be for 80 hours all overtime goes into a "bucket" so to say..to use later for sick and vaction. This just doesnt seem right to me.

Your age and whether you pay your own taxes or not have nothing whatsoever to do with your exempt/non-exempt status. However, the fact that you are paid hourly means that you are non-exempt (your job title tells me that you are not among the very few positions that can be exempt and paid hourly).
Last question; is this a private employer or are you in the public sector (essentially, are your wages paid from tax dollars or not).

Hi CBG. You know i don't know how/where the wages are paid from. I know that the center mostly relies on government grants and donations. I will have to find out.

Let me know what you find out. If you are a public sector employee (an arm or agency of the state, Federal or local government) the law on overtime is different than if you are a private sector employee.
