I live in Indiana. My last job I was at for 18 years. The facility was a 90 bed and I wanted to be an Administrator at a smaller facility. I was called by a friend that he was leaving the 54 bed facility he was at and if I was interested to send my resume. I sent my resume and was hired. Come to find out the comapny was sending there Business Office Manager to school to be an Administrator. She lived just down the street from the nursing facility.
While I was at the facility the census was good we recieved a definciency free survey (which is very hard to get). In September my son died in a car accident. I tried to go back to work but had to take a little time off so I was ask to work 1/2 days and I did then after a week they wanted me to come back. I was told I couldn't cry that I had to be strong. I worked in long term care and should be able to handle it. Then they started treating me bad. When I received the definciency free survey they said we didn't deserve it Then whenever they could they would try and find fault in whatever I did. The office manager past her federal test then the day after she past her state test they came down and took me to lunch. Then tried to tell me that they needed new management and said I could resign or be fired. I told them I knew I was good at my job and nothing they could say would change my mind. They were going to have to fire me. Then they told me if I wanted good reference I should resign. Then proceeded to tell me I could pick my things up at the other facility they owned. I told them NO I want all my things. Then they said they would let me have my two week vacation and give me a month severance pay. They also said I could sign up for unemployment and they would not fight it. I think they used me knowing that they were going to put the Business Office Manager in after she finished. I gave my job up that I was at for 18 years to get fired. Is this something that employers are allowed to do? It just seems so unfair.
Will I qualify for unemployment since they told me to either quit or be fired?

It may have been unfair but I don't see any laws that were violated.

In most instances, resign-or-be-fired situations qualify you for unemployment. It will be situation specific and the state will make the final decision, but I don't see any reason to believe that you will not be able to receive unemployment, particularly since they say they will not contest.
