I was just terminated today in the state of Kentucky. Even though I was just given a 25cent raise last week? I asked my Office manager why I was being terminated she said it was for the things I have been counseled for I have never had a verbal warning signed anything or even been warned that if I made any more mistakes that further action would be taken. I have worked at this Multi Physcian practice for 1yr in 3 months of working there I rec a 50 cent raise then at 6 months another 50 cent raise then for my 1year 25cents! If I was doing so poorly then why would she call me into the office to give me my evaluation and then give me a raise there has been nothing that has changed between now and last week. The second week of Febuary I put in for 3 days paid time off that was approved from my office manager to take care of my Father who was having surgery and needed help getting around. Came back from that and this has happened. I had pto days and also vacation days. When she pulled me into the office she didnt have anything out except fot my term. paper no list of what she supp. counseled me on or what I had been fired. Doesnt your employerr have to explain why? Also shouldnt I have had to be written up or verbal warning of term? I just dont know what the laws are I am shell shocked!

Your employer is not required to give you a reason for your termination, and no law requires that you have received writeups or counseling first. They are under no legal obligation to warn you that you are in danger of being terminated. I'm not saying it's good management practice, but nothing you have posted suggests that any laws have been violated.

That is the law in Missouri. It is not the law in all, or even most states, and it is not the law in Kentucky.

Thanks for all of your advice. I figured that there wasnt anything I could do I just feel like it was so wrong the way I was treated! I feel like that was no way to run an Office when I feel that I have stuck around when it was very hard to work there. How do you get a raise the week before and then get fired why would u get a raise?
