If you have had your teeth pulled (27) and have new dentures and you can't wear them all the time because of the newness, less than a month, they tell you at work that you have to wear them or loose your job, what do you do?

I am still under a dentist care and he tells me it will take a year or so to get where I can wear them all the time. I wear them when I can but as the swelling goes down and they rub like blisters on my gums I can not wear them at times.

Can they fire me for not wearing my teeth? I do really try to wear them when I can. I work nights at a hospital, and my real teeth were crooked and brown and my dentures are white and straight and they look so much better than my real teeth. I hope that they will allow me to continue working.

While I think it is totally ridiculous of your employer to make such a requirement, nothing I can think of in the laws of any state would prohibit the employer from saying you have to "wear your teeth" or be fired.

Thank you for your quick response. I was sure that there wouldn't be anything that I could do, just grin and bear it (excuse the pun). I do have another question, if I am fired because to this, what you are telling me is I have no grounds in which to get compensation or unemployment, basically they can do what they want when they want.

Oh one other thing my supervisor told me that they could not understand me without my teeth, but there are lots of other people that work at the hospital that they can not understand either (foreigners), and I don't mean that in a bad way it is just some of them speak really broken English and it is very hard to understand them sometimes.

My supervisor says it is against dress code to not have teeth, when I ask to see the code she said she didn't have time to get it.

You would almost certainly be eligible for unemployment, but you would not have any legal recourse.

She is not required to show you the policy.
