I'm currently living in Indiana with my boyfriend. He is being transferred to Ohio in April and our lease isn't done until August. The apartment complex told us that we would have to pay 3 months of rent and a "redecorating fee"? There's nothing in our lease that says this. We would only have 4 months left in our lease and basically they aren't cutting us a deal at all. Everyone keeps telling us that since he's being transferred, we should get out of the lease easier then that. I was just wondering if anyone knows what the laws are with this issue and if we are getting screwed over!?! His job is offering to help out with the money but we can't afford to pay the rest! Read the lease to see what it says about early termination. That is the process to terminate the lease, not what is made up. IF they will not honor what is in the lease, you may need to go to small claims court and seek lease termination.
