I am unsure of the labor laws in Michigan, So I am equally unsure where to post these questions.
I have been working for a CLS (community living services, for special needs adults) agency for the past seven months. I started out working a lot of overtime, due to high case numbers in my area. I was being payed time and a half for those hours, up until Jan. 1st. Can they just cut my overtime pay off without telling me? The policy manual says there are different classifications of employment. They never told me what I was, and they certainly never told me what I would become.
Also, as this job requires me to drive my consumers wherever they need to go. (i.e. doctors appointments, grocery stores, etc.) I expected that I would be compensated for milage on my own vehicle. I was told by a manager at my agency in the begining that they did not pay milage. But through contact with other staff, and a county mental health rights officer, I discovered that this was false. I called my agency and they told me that Maccomb county stopped paying for milage in October of 2005, and that I should just "stick it out, it would be a great help to the agency" But I know for a fact that other staff were compensated for milage as recent as December of 2005.
Lastly, when I was fist hired into the agency they required me to sign an "agreement" of sorts. It simply stated that if I were to work for any "competition" agency while employed here or if I were to leave this agency for any reason (i.e. quit, or fired, etc.) and start work for any other local agency that I would be responsible for paying all wages I had previously earned back to them. I found that extemely odd, but I desperatly needed the job at the time, as I was new to the area and on my own. So I signed it.
I am starting to understand why they would make thier employees sign such an agrement. I have worked in this field before. I have dealt with other agencies in the past. I have never experienced treatment such as this from any other agency. I need to know if my rights are being violated, and what I can do about it.
