My lease ends March 31st, 2006. It has been a month-to-month for the last 9 months. I've given my 30 days written notice, as of today, February 27, 2006.

My dilema is as follows.

I close on my house Thursday March 30th. My lease ends Friday March 31st.

I'll be moving myself, and while a day is plenty of time to move my belongings to my new home, I don't know if it will be enough time to thoroughly clean both my new house (just a once over) and the apartment I am vacating (steam clan the rugs, wipe the walls, etc...) so I'm not charged for anything.

My landlord says that I have to be out of my apartment by 8pm on the 31st, but I thought I read somewhere last week that my lease does not expire until midnight and that I have until then to make sure everything is out and the apartment is in good standing.

Can anyone please assist me on this and perhaps provide me w/ a link so that I may forward it to my landlord?

Thank you in advance.

read your lease, some leases state the time.
start early, try to pack everything and put it in one room, clean the other rooms then when you move you'll have less to clean, and wait until you get into your new house to clean it

I think your landlord said 8pm so you will be out by midnight and not the next day, but consult your lease. Usually folks will try to squeeze a free few days while moving, so the landlord is probably being harsh for that reason.
