I live in the state of Texas. I work hourly and make around 32k a year. My employer tells me he doesn't have to pay me overtime for over 40 hours I work because I make more then 27k a year. I can't find any law that says this. I need help on who to go to so I can get paid my overtime. I can not afford a lawyer. Someone please help. Thanks! Also I should mention my boss is my soon to be ex son-in-law. My daughter is also my boss but she has been so bullied by him she can't get a word in edge wise. They own this corp. 50-50 but he will lock her out of the books on his computer, and do all kinds of crazy things. I am ready to go crazy.

Salary is only one of the factors determining whether someone is due overtime. Eligibility for overtime depends on whether someone is "exempt" or "non-exempt" from coverage under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

In addition to salary, factors determining whether someone is exempt from overtime include the type of their responsibilities...whether the work they perform is manual or not. (Manual means that the work involves physical labor or work that is being directed by another person.)
