 What do I do? Any info would be a great help! My ex wants me to foot the bill for our child turning 18 and going to college in Aug. I pay child support (and it will continue until she is finished college). My daughter and I have a close loving relationship and always have maintained it in spite of her mother. What are my rights? How can I still protect my daughter? I feel my ex and I should both pay for her college since we both work. PLEASE HELP! NJ laws are so tough!

you both should pay, contact the office of child support in your area and ask. it may have to be put in the order.

hi

your daughter should take out loans.

I know NJ makes you pay child support but I have not read caselaw that forces you to pay for her college.

There is no way i would pay for any college if i could not afford it.

if i had a good relationship with the child i might be tempted to contribute towards her expenses but I put myself through college along with just about every one I know.

check with a good attorney. If she is living at school then your child support should go pretty far toward paying for her dorm and books.

Good luck to you but unless you make beau cou bucks i would never consent to paying for this. or to be quite honest with you even half unless the child support was deducted from your half.

I would go to court and get a new court order that states who pays what. You do not have to foot the whole bill.
