My husband works in a print shop. No smoking signs are posted but it seems that everyone smokes in the shop once the big bosses have left on the evening and night shifts, even the supervisor. They also use ultraviolet lamps with the printers and quite often they break and mercury spills out. We know there is a procedure for disposing and cleaning the area which often is not done. The mercury is just left on the floor. What should we be doing or who should we be contacting?

OSHA with regards to the mercury spills. I'll have to get the info on the smoking for you later, unless Bears or someone else knows. I do have it; just not where I can get at it right now.

How do we contact OSHA? Email / phone?

I would suggest phone, unless they tell you otherwise.

I am a printer, I work in an enclosed building with no ventalation system.
I am forced to breathe second hand smoke all day.
I have asked the supervisor to get this stopped.
I believe that California passed a law forbidding smoking in places of employment. The smokers insist on smoking while working. They also throw the cigarette butts on the floor all over the shop.
I use Alcohol and we use photo chemistry in the shop. We also use press wash which could catch fire.
Who enforced this non- smoking law? How can I get this stopped?
What recourse do I have if I am terminated over this conflict?

I didn't have time to review it but California does have a statute entitled California Smoke-free Workplace Act. The enforcing authority is the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board (OSHSB) if you wish to contact them and make a complaint.
