I was working at a dealership in CA. as a Sales Manager.

I was working there for four mounths, I was originally hired by a General Manager I knew. He left, and they brought a new boss in. In his first few days, the new manager said, he needed me and thought I would be an asset.

1 month later he pulled me into the office. He said, you are a great manager, good closer, and you have great ability. But you wont fit in with the team I have in mind so I will have to let you go.

when I asked why, he said, one I was too over weight and two the psoriasis on my hands might scare customers.

there is an employee there now who heard my boss making comments about me.

was I wrongfully terminated?
do I have any recourse?

In california they have at will termintation.
Is this his protection?

I didn't even tell my wife about the comments of weight and psoriasis...I was too embarassed.

Should I seek help?

Thanks for your replies

Being terminated for weight and psoriasis is problematic with the weight less so than the psoriasis. The reason is that federal and California law prohibits discrimination against persons with a disability. The weight may be considered a disability only if it caused by a condition that is considered as an illness. Typical weight issues are not considered as a disability.

However, psoriasis may be considered as a disability and, therefore, to terminate someone for having that considition is illegal. I encourage you to file a complaint with the EEOC or the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. The US EEOC's website is at: www.eeoc.gov (http://www.eeoc.gov). The DFEH may be found at: http://www.dir.ca.gov/DLSE/dlse.html

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
