Hello, my wife works for a large hotel chain. She came up for evaluation the other day. The manager said all was good, except for her hair! She'll kill me for this but,....she is 50 and her hair is thinning, (doesn't leave much styling options), she wears it straight, just below her shoulders. The manager seems to like short perm'ed hair. Can they make her change her hair style? The guests seem to have no problem with her 'looks' and she has a great time talking with the 'regulars' at the hotel, (some are "government" people, and they stay for weeks or months at a time).
They, (the hotel manager), have now told her that she is not to talk to guests about anything not related to checking in or out, (not good PR in my opinion), can they hold her to this?
She enjoys working there and doesn't want to quit, but conditions are getting worse...Only been employed about 6 months in the hotel business, been house wife for last 20 years...
Thank for any advice...
Just for the record, this is a "choice" hotel. Comfort suites in Kentucky.

Yes, they can require her to change her hair style. Hair style is not a protected characteristic in any state and the company has the right to determine the "look" they want their employees to project. That means hair as well as dress code.
