I am appealing an unemployment claim in two weeks and I need some advice. I am in Colorado and I quit my job in order to seek a new job with more stability. Unemployment said I was denied benefits since it was voluntary decision to leave.

I need to show good cause in order to appeal my claim. The reason I had quit my job was because I was verbally warned that if I did not make a sale by the end of the month, I would be terminated. I am in sales and I have seen a lot of my team members resign or be fired as a result of a dry month. So, I could not risk being terminated and seeked another job (which I am no longer at). Does this show good cause because of the risk of no income? Thanks!

Good cause to quit and receive UI benefits usually requires that you are being subjected to some form of illegal treatment; sexual harassment, illegal discrimination, etc. Some states allow you to collect for a limited time if you turned in your resignation with notice and your employer asks you to leave immediately. A VERY few states allow you to collect if you quit to follow a spouse who is taking a job outside of commuting distance. But quitting because you might be fired later isn't going to do it.

If you had stayed on the job and they actually had fired you, you almost certainly would have been able to collect. Unfortunately, by quitting to avoid that, you seem to have shot yourself in the foot as far as unemployment goes.
