I'm a salaried employee in Georgia. Though I'm currently at a new job, I've been paid by salary from other employers for thirteen years. That is why the following really has has me guessing.

I'm contracted to make a certain dolloar amount a year. Weather I work 40 hours or 80 hours in a weak, I still get paid the same. That's the purpose of of being salaried. I understand that.

Recently I had to take a day off due to a family emergency, and when i received my next pay stub I was docked pay for that day. IS THAT RIGHT?

I double checked the company hand book, and it sais nothing about salaried employ benefits ( vacation, sick day, paid and unpaid time off). Further, in all my years of employment, I've never run into this situation of pay. If i had to be absent from work, then so be it. I was salary. As long as my supervisor new what was goin on. And in this case he did.

I'am I wrong for thinking this is not right?
Is there a law to back me up?

An exempt employee can have their pay docked in certain circumstances; one of them is if he takes a day off for personal reasons.

A non-exempt employee never has to be paid for time he does not work, except in two state-specific exceptions which do not apply here.

So regardless of whether you are exempt or non-exempt, on the basis of what you have posted, it was legal for your employer to dock you. It may have been petty. It may or may not have been unfair. But unless there is more to the story than you are saying, it was not illegal.
