I am a civilian helicopter pilot working for a large Tennessee city police department. I am non-exempt civil service. Every off shift during the week, and every other off-shift weekend, I am required to carry a pager, can not leave the immediate area, and cannot consume alchohol as this would be against Federal Aviation Regulations if I where called in to fly. I am being compensated $0.00 for this. Help!

If called to fly, how much time do you have to respond?

When you say immediate area, what exactly do you mean? Your house? Your town? Your county? The state?

It makes a difference to the answer.
