I've looked everywhere and cant seem to find an answer to my questions. so ill try to keep it short. I have a child who is almost 4, finally left her father who developed a drug problem. i have since then gotten married. my husband wants to adopt my daughter. her bio dad wants to terminate his rights. my question is this: i am a college student i.e: broke..broke...broke.
i have no idea how to go about doing this. anyone know of any place that may help? can DEFACS or child support help with any of the costs? i was never married to bio father but he claimed paternity on the birth certificate. he has since moved to texas. anyone have any ideas? I just dont want to cause my little one anymore pain! thanks

It's unlikely that either of those will help, especially CSE. The only way to properly really get it done and know that it is legal and there be no way to have it reversed is through an attorney. This way every channel is gone through, including if a home study is required and the proper notification to the biological father.
It's tax time... use that money, that's how my husband and I did it... Ours was a total of $850 from start to finish and worth every penny of it.

I couldn't tell you about the area but as I suggested to someone else look around and get consults. If bio father is willing to do this it will be much cheaper to do. Find lawyers that do free consults and go from there.
mine was 700 for the lawyer and court fees (including notice and certification sent) and 150 for the home study... Filed the end of February, walked out finalized in June

visit http://www.adoption.com and look for assistance programs; look for Georgia adoptions page as there are some programs that offer financial incentives and subsidides to adopt; another option is to contact the state or local bar association to see if there are any attorney who would handle the adoption pro bono so your costs are only the filings fees and home study costs.
