I am a manager for a company in CA that I feel is taking advantage of myself and other managers. I am forced to stay after closing (10pm) untill I paint bathrooms, or scrub kitchen floors, and so on. This can take me into 4am at times, and I have to be back at work the next day at 2pm until close or later again. I am not paid any overtime for this, I am salaried, but it is not in my contract of employment, and these are not typical management duties. What can I do about this? Or Is this something that I just have to do?

Assuming that you are also exempt, you are not entitled by law to any additional compensation, no matter how many hours you work and how many stupid things the employer requires you to do.

Having said that, you have the choice to refuse to do those tasks, or risk getting fired, or find another position with a company who respects your knowledge and experience. (OK, that was a soapbox comments, I admit.) ;)

Thank you for your response. I am looking for other employment at this time ;) , but it is still very frustrating being taken advantage of!!
