Hi there. South Carolina Question here.

My wife is a full time salaried worker, and is exempt (professional). She is having a medical procedure done that requires her to miss 2 hours of work. Her company is telling her that she must use her paid time off to cover those hours.

My question is this: If she is receiving a salary, why should she be forced to take paid time off to cover the work she missed? I am not familiar with labor law so I cannot be sure if what the yare telling her is accurate.

I was under the impression that any time under 4 hours did not have to be taken from PTO ours. (At least that is what most companies in the area adhere to).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

What they are telling her is a matter of company policy. The law neither prohibits nor requires an employee to use PTO for partial day absences. While I fully understand your postition, what they are requiring of her is legal and not uncommon.
