I hired in with a temp service. I went to work the first day. I was there 8 hrs. I couldn't do the job so I called the temp service to let them know I would not be going back that I couldn't do the job. The first day was a all day training session, which we were told we would be paid for. When I phoned the temp service about my check, she said that I didn'twork the second day and I wouldn't receive a check. She claimed I didn't give it a chance. I knew from the example work that we did that I would not be able to do it. Nothing was said about not getting a check if I didn't go back. The temp service told me if I could not do the job to call them, that I did. Do they owe me for the 8 hrs???

Yes, they do. Training in the situation you describe is compensable. Since it appears they are not voluntarily going to pay, you can file a claim for unpaid wages with your state Dept. of Labor.
