Can you tell me what the current Arizona law is regarding the number of hours a PACU (recovery room) nurse can legally work consecutively in a 24 hour period? Recently a nurse worked her normal 12 hour shift and because she was on call, she ended up working 24 hours straight doing pt care. Is this legal? We want to be legal and safe.

You would probably have to contact a professional association or the Nursing Licensing Board (or something similar). This question is probably too specific for a general information board unless someone happens along who is in the industry, and I don't know of any regular responders who are.

I know that there are only about 7 states that have such a limitation, but I don't know offhand if AZ is one of them.

You might try a search on this forum. We used to have a responder here named Sue who was knowledgeable about such things - if you search back to about April or so using "nurses" or "nursing" as your search terms, you may find one of her old posts on the subject. I'm pretty sure that information will be there if you can find the right thread.
