I have been trying to find out if Mississippi has any laws in place to limit or prohibit mandatory overtime. I understand the as far as federal laws go, my company can require me to work 24/7 as long as they pay time-and-a-half. Was just hoping that the local government had better sense.
Rather a timely post, since I only an hour ago researched that very question for a client of mine.
I'm sorry to tell you that Mississippi has NO state overtime law; NO state minimum wage law; NO law limiting the number of hours you can be required to work and NO law on many other issues that many states address.
In fact, at this particular point in my project, which involves my researching certain state laws of all 50 states (I've done 28 so far) Mississippi offers the fewest protections of any of the states I've completed.
