I am a traveling nurse. I work in a California hospital as a contracted employee through my traveling nursing company. As of 2006 I am no longer being paid double-time for hours worked over 12 in one day. I get straight pay for first 8 hours, time-and-one-half for next 4 hours, and now time-and-one-half for any hours over 12. I used to get paid double-time for any hours over 12, as in not receiving a break or having to stay late. My company tells me they can't bill for the double-time as of 2006, so they can't pay me double-time. Did something change with the California Labor Laws that now say I shouldn't be paid double-time?
