I have read labor rights in other states, but can't find LA's online.

In some states, it is not legal to reduce vacation time. My employer is saying we have no (paid) vacation for the year 2006, since we had 3 months off (one paid) due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Can they legally reduce our vacation (to nothing) for the next year? Seems pretty sketchy to me. If that is true, it seems we need to revisit/amend the Napolianic law.

There is no state where it is illegal to reduce vacation time. In some states, time already accrued cannot be lost. There's a difference.

Yes, they can reduce vacation time to nothing. No law in any state requires an employer to provide paid vacation time.

I stand corrected. The piece I saw online was Canadian (I thought it was from California).

Their law states that vacation cannot be reduced. Funny how they are ahead of the US in these matters...

There's a flip side to everything. I have relatives in Canada, and in fact am Canadian born. There's no question they have a stronger mandated benefits policy than the US, but at the same time they pay an enormously higher tax than the US does (which is how some of those benefits get paid for).
