Can I request a copy of my personal file from a former employer. They are based out of Texas. I worked for them here. I quit 5 months ago.

Sorry you had to wait for an answer; I didn't have my source material with me during the day.

Although in Iowa current employees are entitled to view their files and may have a copy of it by paying the employer for the cost of the copying, I don't see anything to see that your state gives that same right to former employees. You are free to ask, but it would appear that if your employer refuses to supply it, they are in the clear.

Texas law won't help you since Texas doesn't require that current OR former employees be given access to their file.

Thank You. I have another question. Lets say I work for a company,and my supervisor discusses my negative job performance with say a contractor who is contracted by my company to do work there. Would that violate any state or fedral laws?
