I have spoken with my HR Dept., and they have advised me that I would qualify for FMLA under the basis of foster placement of a child. I am taking custody of my unborn neice or nephew next month. What does the "Foster Placement" actually mean and consist of??

FMLA does not cover foster placement specifically. I'm not saying it can't be used that way, but only because it goes to the intent of the law and not to what the law itself says.

You'll need to ask your HR Department what they will permit or require.
