At my work they have always payed us for holiday pay on the actual day of the holiday. They recognize six. It is this big crazy mess because the new H.R. is saying that we shouldn't get paid on for example Sunday New years day it should be on Monday the " legal holiday." I am usually off weekends and I picked up Sunday to get paid holiday pay which here you get time and a half plus pay for the holiday. Now they are saying that it is federal law that when a holiday falls on a weekend then the recognized holiday has to be that friday or the monday after. What's the real deal.

They are half right and half wrong.

It is Federal law that Federal employees receive the holiday on the Friday or the Monday if the holiday falls on the weekend. However, no law requires that private employers do so, or even that they provide holidays at all.

However, it is not your choice what day you get. It is theirs. If they want to make it Monday, it's Monday, whether the law requires them to or not.
