On Christmas Eve I worked from 10am-6pm. My job had me scheduled for midnight- 8am on Christmas. I thought that you had to have at least eight hours off in between two shifts, is this legal?

It is legal. Except for very limited positions, such as truck driver or airline pilot, there is no law in any state mandating a certain number of hours between shifts.
