I have worked happily for my employer for the last six years on hourly, I get paid for what ever I work, now his daughter is taking over and wants to change me to salary..........is that legal?

If by "salaried", you mean "exempt" (salaried is merely a pay method) whereby you will no longer get overtime pay, that depends.
