View Full Version : Not paid for last day (holiday) in CA??? +final deductions

Hi - I have two questions.

I gave my employer almost one month's notice that I was quitting. When they came to go over my final check, they informed me that they had "forgotten" to deduct my health insurance deductions and so they were taking that from my last paycheck. Is that legal? I assume I owe the money so OK.

But, what really irks me, is that I told them my last day would be 12/23, at the time it was a regularly scheduled work day. After I had given my notice, they sent a company email stating that employees were now going to be given that day off as a paid holiday.

I felt that since I had scheduled my last day as that same holiday, prior to being informed it was a holiday, and had planned to work that day, that I should have been paid for that day. But they are not paying me for it on my last check.

This seems wrong, unfair, etc. Please tell me if that is legal.

Thanks

No, not illegal. It would be a nice gesture to do so, but that's it. Employers don't have to provide paid holidays at all.

yeah, that is kind of what I figured on the holiday. What about the medical deductions? Legal too I suppose?

If you owe the money, why would it not be?
