Hello. My name is Kristina. I am new to this forum. I was just wondering if anyone knew about Maryland's law on child custody. My parents have gotten into abusing drugs and it has kept my sister from being able to attend school. Unfortunately I myself am dealing with things such as college and a full time job. I don't really have the time to help her with getting to school. Anyways, my sister in law wants to get full custody of my sister. Meaning her and my brother take over legal guardianship. However, they live in a small apartment for time being and they are trying to do something asap before she is sent to a foster home. Is there anyway someone may know some information that could be helpful in my situation? I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much!

Sincerely,

The Newbee.. Kristina

Is child protective services already involved? If so, your brother and sister-in-law need to contact the case worker. CPS will always try to place a child with other family members before placement in a foster home.

If CPS isn't involved, they need to talk to your parents and maybe they can work out a deal for guardianship. If not, CPS needs to be involved. Good luck.
