An employee at the shop I work at was in front of the GM this morning concerning an auto accident he was involved in when the conversation went into the employees lifestyle in a religious way. It was suggested that he should feel his responsiblility to the company was to serve God and serve others. Can employers discuss such religious aspects of a persons personal in the workplace??

The short answer to your question is yes.

Unless the employee is adversely treated because of their refusal to attend religious services or something of the kind, nothing in the law says that religion cannot be discussed in the workplace.

Actually, though I'm no expert on labor laws, I do know my constitution. There is NO STATEMENT ANYWHERE therein that states "separation of Church and State". What it does say is that the State shall make NO LAWS governing the freedom of religion. The next time you hear of someone taking something to court and asking the court to make a ruling about it and it is religious, then they AND the courts are breaking the constitution. It happens all of the time. With this in mind...can the State say you are not allowed to talk about religion ANYWHERE (including the government buildings or work)? No. I thought I'd take it one step farther, to help out in life in general. Thanks for this opportunity!

My boss and two managers are very strict Baptists and I have found that I cannot discuss anything regarding Archeology, Evolution, or Ancient History without the the discussion turning to Creationism, the Bible, and that "the Earth is only 6000 years old".

It is kind of a stifling environment and I often have to bite my tounge. The interesting thing is that we are an Engineering firm and one of managers is going back to school to get a Medical Degree. The one getting a Medical Degree often tells us stories about how his professors discuss Evolution "like it is a fact" and he has to suppress his outrage.
