Over 2 years ago, I was hired as a Social Worker in a salery position at a local nursing home. About a month later, my administrator who hired me, was fired. Head office then informed me that I could not be on Salery and they had to cut me to hourly wage which also cut my hours. This was done without my signature. Is there anything I can do about this. Please respond to my email address at maggiejane2@yahoo.com. Thank you so much.

No, it is not illegal, especially since it appears you were notified before the change was made, which is required in some states, although I'm not positive about Montana.

What very well may have happened is that they determined that you were not an exempt employee after all, and reverted your pay method to hourly-paid so that they would not be in violation of state and federal wage-and-hour regulations. Cutting your hours at the same time is not illegal either. Unless you had a bona fide employment contract (which is very rare), I don't see that any laws were violated here.

Not only is it not illegal, it may have been required by law. Who can legally be considered an exempt employee was recently tightened up. If your duties no longer qualified you to be an exempt employee (or, as is also possible, they never did but it was not noticed until all the jobs were reviewed in light of the new law) then they were REQUIRED to convert you to hourly.
